Dr. Cohen is a board certified urologist who has been in practice in West Palm Beach, Florida since 1990. He received his undergraduate training at George Washington University, graduating Phi Beta Kappa, and earned his medical degree with highest honors at the same prestigious institution. After completing two years of surgical internship and residency at George Washington University he entered their urology program and served as chief resident graduating in 1990.
Dr. Cohen was voted one of the Top Young Urologists by the American Urological Association in 1995. He was elected Chief of Urology at JFK Medical Center in Atlantis, Florida in 1994, the youngest urologist to hold this position and has had the longest tenure of any department chair. He also served as Medical Director of Robotic and Minimally Invasive Surgery after starting the program in 2003. Doctor Cohen is a former Chairman of the Cancer Committee at Wellington Regional Medical Center and served as Chairman of the Quality Risk Management Team at the same institution. Dr. Cohen is the physician founder of the Wellington Regional Medical Center Prostate Cancer Support Group, which is the largest and most successful of its kind in South Florida. He became a clinical instructor at Southeastern College of Medicine in Miami Florida in 1994. He has also published numerous articles in professional medical journals and has presented lectures on many urologic topics locally, nationally and internationally. Since 2003 Dr. Cohen has been included in the nationwide issue of “Top Doctors” and “Super Doctors”, both voted on by fellow physicians. Also since 2010 he has received the “Patient Choice Award” and “Most Compassionate Doctor Award” by his patients. He is the subject of “Miracle Hands”, a book written by the wife of a patient as a tribute to Dr. Cohen, and an informative resource on prostate cancer.
Dr. Cohen is committed to providing state of the art urologic care to his patients. He was the first urologist in Palm Beach County to perform bladder cancer surgery in which a new bladder is formed out of the intestinal tract, allowing the patient to be appliance free. In addition, Dr. Cohen was the first urologist in Palm Beach County to perform a Robotic Laparoscopic Radical Prostatectomy, a technologically advanced treatment for prostate cancer, He serves as urologic consultant to several pharmaceutical companies, and is involved in clinical research of new medications. Dr. Cohen has served as surgical instructor for Boston Scientific and helped develop the transvaginal urethral sling procedure, a state of the art treatment for female urinary incontinence.
Dr. Cohen is trained in all aspects of adult and pediatric urology and uses all the latest treatment modalities. He is a recognized expert in prostate cancer treatment and has special interest and training in urologic cancer surgery, female incontinence and surgery, non-surgical / minimally invasive treatment of Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy, and
